Scroll area – fit more content into a small space
Insert a vertical scroll area, set its inner height and assign displays to its scrollable contents.
1. Insert a scroll area
Select Structure → Scroll area and place the object on the page. It has the heading “Scrollinhalt” and a vertical slider on the right. Original screenshots show the German interface.
The scroll area provides a visible window onto a larger inner area. It does not require a PLC address itself; contained displays can use their own process variables.
2. Set the visible window size
Open object properties. The example uses X = 20, Y = 130, width = 360 and height = 225. Text / initial value sets the heading, here “Scrollinhalt”. Rotation is 0, transparency is 100 and font size is 16 px.
Width and height set the outer size. The heading, margins and slider occupy part of it, so the actual visible content area is smaller.
3. Set inner height and wheel step
Click Scrollbereich einstellen (configure scroll area) and enter:
- Inner height: 900 px – the vertical area available for assigned objects.
- Mouse-wheel step: 60 px – the step size when scrolling with the wheel.
Click Apply in the dialog and then in object properties. Inner height enlarges the content area, not the visible object on the page.
The program clamps inner height to at least the visible content height and at most 10,000 px. The wheel step is clamped to 10 through 500 px.
4. Assign an LCD display
- Insert an LCD display and open its object properties.
- Click Assign area (Bereich zuordnen).
- Select Scrollbereich · Scrollbereich, as shown.
- Apply the assignment and then the object properties.
- Assign further displays the same way and position them within the inner area.
Simply placing an object visually over the scroll area does not create a fixed assignment. Assigned objects move with the scroll area when it is moved. Select No assignment to unlink an object.
Assigned content positions are relative to the inner area, allowing content below the initially visible window. Configure each LCD display’s process connection and appearance on that display itself.
5. Scroll in test mode
Save the project and start test mode with F5. Place the pointer over the scroll area and turn the mouse wheel, or operate the slider on the right.
The heading and outer window remain in place while contents move vertically. Content outside the visible window is clipped. In the example, the upper LCD is partially visible; below it, the display labeled “Anlagen Zahlenwert” shows 50. Clipping at the window edge is expected.
The numbers come from the individual LCD displays. Scrolling itself does not change setpoints or process values.
6. Troubleshoot content that does not scroll
- Check the affected object’s fixed area assignment in its properties.
- Make sure inner height exceeds the visible content height.
- Check an assigned display’s position and size if it is outside the current view.
- Keep the pointer over the scroll area when using the wheel.
